WANTED: Killer Verse - Urban Legend and Folklore Scary Short Stories
Got a bone-chilling tale to tell? A fan of mysteries and the unknown? Want to see your stories come to life on stage? Then submit to KILLERVERSE 2026!
The Delta Literary Arts Society is putting on our 6th annual Killer Verse, a one-night only spectacle of short scary stories performed by local actors live on stage. Submit yours for consideration! Preference to works that loosely fit our theme of urban legends and folklore tales.
Need a prompt? Consider this...
Write a horror story about something that should not be there — but is. Fear doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t chase. It simply exists... and waits to be noticed.
Focus on atmosphere, dread, and the slow realization that reality has shifted in a subtle but irreversible way. Make us feel the moment the world stops making sense.
Or how about:
- Something that goes bump in the night
- Haunted objects
- Small town myths
- Paranormal activity
- Forgotten places
- Midnight station
Details:
- Submissions due May 31, 2026.
- Stories should have 5 min run time (approx 2-3 pages in length)
- There is a $2 CAD reading fee for each submission to cover production costs.
- Writers will be paid $50 CAD per piece chosen.
- Killer Verse to be performed in October 2026 in North Delta, BC.
We look forward to hearing your eerie tales and seeing them come to life at Killer Verse 2026.
